Arts Council England: DYCP

Bela is thrilled to have been awarded a prestigious and supportive Arts Council England (ACE) DYCP grant July ’23-June ‘24, to develop creative sustainability. The project culminates in Shape and Surrender: a Making Space residency at Fabrica, Brighton, 17th-21st June ’24 (public event: 19th June).

Through the DYCP, she’s exploring movement, embodiment, listening, and sound, with Contact Improvisation (CI) and other movement practitioners throughout England – as well as her own artistic processes.

As a result of this funding, since July ‘23, Bela has been exploring and developing her relational cello and movement practice with:

Asher Levin (CI teacher)
Lee Bolton (embodiment and CI practitioner)
Julia Samel (relational movement)

She’s also been playing solo and collaborative responsive acoustic and electric/fx cello in workshops for and with:

Asher Levin (Totnes & Bristol)
Paul Smith (5Rhythms, Brighton)
CI at Goldsmiths
Julia Samel (Moving Connections, London)

This builds on workshops and projects with Lee Bolton, Jamus Wood, Richard Sarco-Thomas (as lead musician at T&PUK ‘22) in ‘22/’23, and SOMA at Buddhafield ‘23/’24.
